I Am Small, But My God Is Big

As I sit here propped up in bed (I should be sleeping, but my nails need to dry some more – that’s my excuse anyway) – I’m listening to a storm roll through. I LOVE STORMS. Yes, I would be a storm chaser if I could switch careers.

As I listen though – I was prompted to think about how big my God is, and how in the midst of life’s storms – He’s got me. Let’s study Job for some references to the weather and how big God is:

β€’ Job 28:25-27: “When He imparted weight to the wind And meted out the waters by measure, When He set a limit for the rain And a course for the thunderbolt, Then He saw it and declared it; He established it and also searched it out.” // How comforting is it that He has a plan and path for each rain drop, and each bolt of lightning, and crash of thunder? How much more than does He care about the direction and path for my life.

β€’ Job 37:1: “At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. “Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth. “Under the whole heaven He lets it loose, And His lightning to the ends of the earth.” // When my problems seem too big, and I begin to loose faith, this verse makes me see His size and shows me that He is bigger than all those problems.

β€’ Luke 5:10: “He gives rain on the earth And sends water on the fields,” How wonderful is His caring heart for His children. I’m so thankful for a loving God that sends the nutrients that we need to grow, each and every day.

One of the biggest struggles in my life recently has been my diagnosis of Bipolar depression. A lot of people think of those words as big and ugly – but I see them as growth and endurance. God has led me through this storm and though I may not be to the other side yet, I am making progress with Him at my side. I hope these verses are comforting to you as they were to me on this rainy stormy night. Just know – you are more than your diagnosis – you are what God created you to be – strong.
