Transformation Takes Two

Transformation

Well, if that isn’t a loaded topic, I don’t know what is.

But, we can do this, together. Here we go.

Transformation can be a difficult thing to imagine, see, and especially do. At this moment in my life, I’ve felt that I’ve been on the verge of transformation for some time. Now, things around me, my relationships, my hobbies, I’ve seen them transform— now, I believe it’s my turn. I want, more than anything, to safely lose the weight I’ve packed on over the years, and keep it off. Before that happens though, I now know that it can’t be just another fad diet or complete restriction—it has to come from within me.

Before we throw ourselves at this crazy thought, we should first make sure we understand it. Knowledge is power.

Transformation shouldn’t be about the end result, it should be about the journey you took to get there. True transformation is made from all the bits and pieces of the learning, collaboration, growth, speed bumps, and successes that come with the journey to your end result. In order to fully grasp where we get to, we need to understand all it took to get there. It’s beautiful, it really is!

Transformation cannot happen without you. I have experience here, I’ve tried doing it for my husband, my friends, my friends’ friends, my parents, even my puppy! It ain’t gonna happen. True transformation comes from within, and is just for you. No one else. Which means it’s time to unveil reality, see it for what it is, and decide ‘Listen here—I’m better than this!’ We can do it.

Transformation takes two sets of eyes. Though we might be the ones putting in all the effort and hard work, there will come a time when we throw ourselves on the floor in a fit of rage and yell ‘Why isn’t this working?!’. Well, often times, the truth is, it IS—we’re just so close to it that we can’t see all the wonderful progress we’ve been making. So, before we accept defeat, we need to reach out to someone who loves us and ask them for a recap. More than likely, because they love you, they will have seen the progress.

For those of us who can’t live without amazing quotes to keep us fueled and moving forward (me!), here are a few golden nuggets:

“What if periods of misfortune are meant to generate a level of discomfort so intense that we grow desperate enough to become who we really are?” —Lacey Johnson

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” —Romans 12:2

“Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.” —Elizabeth Gilbert

Just remember, nothing worth fighting for is easy. Let’s get out of our comfort zones and allow transformation to happen.

Do you have a transformation story you’d like to share? I’d LOVE to hear it. Any tips? Thoughts you’d like to add? Please share 🙂

My best to you,

  1. Ooh, great quote. And thanks for your transparency, Holly! I’m walking a similar journey, between the now and the not yet. Love your gentle grace, to give ourselves a little credit for growing when we can’t see progress. Here’s another thought to keep you (and me) going: “Pain is a breach in the walls of decline and stagnation” (Bryant McGill).

  2. I am finding my career transformation to be painful, exciting, and full of hope. Thanks for the insight on seeing our transformation through two sets of eyes! Being clouded by our own judgement and misinterpretation of the situation can lead to bad feelings for nothing…
I have shared this in my post about identifying the closed doors in my last job at https://ksqandassociates.org/blog
